The journey begins in Amarantos. Settle into the local guesthouse, walk through the village and take time to meet the landscape, atmosphere and stories of the place.

Wild Epirus:
A Village-to-Village Journey.
Walk the old paths of Mastorochoria and experience Epirus through its villages, landscapes and local life.
Walk through the mountain villages of a quieter Epirus.
The Mastorochoria are a collection of remote mountain villages near Greece’s northern border. Little-known, authentic and still largely untouched by tourism, these stone-built villages lie along the slopes of Smolikas and Grammos. In some of them, the permanent residents can be counted on one hand. Those who remain preserve the character and quiet beauty of the place simply by continuing to live there.
For generations, skilled builders left these villages to work far beyond Epirus—from the Balkans and Egypt to America—leaving behind bridges, houses, churches and public buildings before returning home.

An indicative plan,
never a fixed script.
This outline shows the natural flow of the journey, from Amarantos through the Mastorochoria and on to Konitsa. The precise walks, stays and overall duration will be confirmed only after we understand your preferences and current local conditions.
Follow the local circular trail around Amarantos and discover how paths, forests and everyday village life have shaped this corner of Epirus. The walk becomes an introduction to the history of the place and its relationship with the surrounding landscape.
Leave Amarantos on foot and continue towards Pyrsogianni, one of the best-known Mastorochoria. Stone architecture and the legacy of travelling master builders offer a deeper understanding of the region.
The route continues from Pyrsogianni towards Asimochori, with Vourbiani forming a natural intermediate stop. It is a journey through villages connected by older paths, shared histories and the mountain landscape between them.
Walk from Asimochori to nearby Chionades and pause in the village—perhaps over a coffee at the local kafeneio. From here, a private van transfer brings the journey to Konitsa for an overnight stay.
From Konitsa, walk into the Aoos Gorge beneath the great mountain slopes. After the hike, transfer to Ioannina for your onward journey or an optional extension in Epirus.
